Publishing your articles

Checked against the app on .

Once an article is approved, you publish it from cpywrk to your Shopify store, your WordPress site or your own website. You connect each platform once. After that, every article publishes with one click, right away or at a time you choose.

Step 1: connect your platform

Go to Settings, then Integrations. Each platform has a card with a Connect button.

Shopify. Shopify asks you to create a small private app for cpywrk in your store, which takes about five minutes. Click Connect on the Shopify card and follow the link “How to set up Shopify API credentials” in the form; it walks you through creating the app and giving it permission to read and write content. Then enter your store domain (for example my-store.myshopify.com), the Client ID and the Client secret from the app you created, and click Connect. The secret is stored securely and never shown again.

WordPress.com. Click Connect. WordPress.com opens in a small window and asks you to allow cpywrk to create posts on your blog. Approve, and the window closes by itself. If your browser blocks the window, allow pop-ups for cpywrk or use the “Open authorisation page” link.

WordPress on your own hosting. In your WordPress admin, go to Users, then Your Profile, and scroll to Application Passwords. Type any name, such as cpywrk, click Add New Application Password and copy the password it shows. Use an Editor or Administrator account. Back in cpywrk, click Connect on the WordPress (Self-Hosted) card, enter your Site URL and the application password in the form username:password, and click Connect. cpywrk checks the connection straight away and tells you if the site could not be reached or the password was refused.

If cpywrk says it could not authenticate although the site address and password are right, your hosting may be dropping the login header before it reaches WordPress; this happens on some managed WordPress hosts. Ask your host to pass the Authorization header through to WordPress so application passwords work with the REST API. It is a common request and takes them minutes.

Your own website. If your site is not on Shopify or WordPress, cpywrk can deliver each article to an address on your site. This is set up on the business’s Publishing tab, not on the Integrations page. The separate guide Publishing cpywrk articles to your own website covers it.

A connected card shows a green Connected badge with the date. Disconnect removes the connection; Reconnect on the Shopify card lets you enter new credentials.

Step 2: choose where articles go

Open your business and go to the Publishing tab. Each connected platform has a card there.

  • Shopify: choose the Target blog. If the list is empty, create a blog in your Shopify admin first.
  • WordPress on your own hosting: choose the Post type. Posts is the usual choice.
  • Switch on “Default target for new articles” on the card you use most, so it is pre-selected when you publish.
  • “Table of contents” adds a list of the article’s sections at the top of every published article, if you want one.

Click Save on the card.

Step 3: publish an article

Open a finished article. At the bottom, “Publish this article” lists your connected platforms, one row each.

  1. Check the row shows the right blog or post type. You can change it there for this article, or save the change as the default for your business.
  2. Click Publish to publish now, or Schedule to pick a date and time. Times are shown in your own time zone.
  3. A “Review before publishing” box may appear first. It lists anything in the article that still needs your attention, such as a placeholder left in the text or a formatting rule. Each item has a Locate button that takes you to the spot in the editor. Fix the item, or tick Noted where the box allows it, then confirm.
  4. The row then shows “Published” with the date and time, and a “View post” link to the article on your platform.

To change a published article, edit it in cpywrk and click “Update article” on the row. The existing post on your platform is updated in place; no duplicate is created.

If a row shows “Publish failed”, click “See error” to read why and “Retry” to try again. If the message mentions your connection, reconnect the platform on the Integrations page.

Scheduling several articles at once

On the business’s Publishing tab, click “Schedule articles”.

  1. Tick the articles to schedule, or Select all. Articles already scheduled are greyed out.
  2. Choose the platform.
  3. Set the start date, whether to publish one or two articles per day, and the time of day for each. A preview shows the resulting date and time for every article.
  4. Click “Schedule N articles”.

The Publishing tab keeps a list of what is coming up, what was sent in the last two weeks, what needs attention and what was cancelled. Any scheduled row can be rescheduled or cancelled from the article’s page.

What is published

The article’s title, text, first image as the featured image, meta description and web address. Categories and tags are not set by cpywrk; add them on your platform after publishing if you use them. Articles go live on your platform the moment they are published; cpywrk does not create drafts there.

If a publish fails

You receive an email titled “Publish failed” with the article, the destination and the reason. The article stays in cpywrk; nothing is lost. Open it, fix what the message points at, and click Retry.
